Book Review and Research Note manuscripts: Please submit to the appropriate Editor as listed on the inside cover page of this journal issue.
To expedite the review process, manuscripts (including all Figures and Tables) should be submitted by E-mail as an attached Word file. All manuscripts must be typewritten on one side of the paper, double spaced (including references), and should be checked carefully prior to submission. All rights and permissions must be obtained by the contributor(s).
Format Requirements (in sequence)
Cover Page: This contains the title of the manuscript (50 words maximum), all author names and their corresponding affiliations as well as complete mailing address, telephone and fax number, and E-mail. The designated corresponding author must be identified by an asterisk (*).
Title Page: The second page consists of the manuscript title, abstract (maximum of 200 words that reflects an abbreviated representation of the content of the manuscript including purpose, method, main results, conclusions, and/or recommendations), and up to six key words for indexing purposes. To facilitate the double-blind review process (see 'Evaluation' below); no material that identifies the author(s) should be placed on this page.
Text: The text should consist of an Introduction, main body (including literature review, method, results, analysis, and discussion, as appropriate) and Conclusions. Text citations should adhere to the following examples: (Pyo, 2005) or (Buckley, 2001, 2002; Getz & Page, 2005; Sirakaya et al., 2001) or (Butler, 1980, p.7) (for quoted material). Abbreviations should be fully spelled out in parentheses the first time that they are used in the text.
Acknowledgements: These will immediately follow the Conclusions.
Endnotes: A small number of Endnotes (e.g. no more than five) may follow the Acknowledgements. Do not use Footnotes - all important information should be incorporated in the text.
Quotations: should be extracted and indented if they consist of forty words or more.
References should be placed at the end of the manuscript on a separate page, arranged in alphabetical order. Follow APA guidelines set forth in their Publication Manual (5th edition) for text and reference list citations, as per the following examples:
* Journal article: Strange, C., & Kempa, M. (2003). Shades
of dark tourism: Alcatraz and Robben Island. Annals of Tourism Research,
30(2), 386-405.
* Book: Weaver, D. B., & Lawton, L. J. (2002). Tourism
management (2nd ed.). Milton, QLD: John Wiley & Sons, Australia,
Ltd.
* Chapter in edited book: Coles, T., Duval, D. T., & Hall,
C. M. (2005). Tourism , mobility, and global communities: New aprpoaches
to theorizing tourism and tourist spaces. In W. F. Theobald (Ed.), Global
tourism (3rd. ed., pp. 463-481). Burlingotn, MA: Elsevier Butterworth-Heinemann.
Please note that citations such as "personal communication'' should be cited parenthetically in the text only. Do not include in the reference list.
Figures: All figures should be kept to a minimum and be prepared as a .doc, .tif or .eps format, if possible. Do not incorporate figures within the text of the manuscript. Black and white line art (i.e., bar graphs, etc.) should be prepared without color unless the figure is to be printed in color. (Note there is a charge for printing figures in color). Labeling and figure detail must be large enough to be legible after reduction to fit page parameters. Each figure must be cited in the text and legends for all illustrations should be included on a separate page. Do not incorporate figure legends as part of the figure and figure file. Place figure legend text at the end of the manuscript file following the reference section. Photographs should be presented in a .tif file if possible (no color unless they are to be printed in color). The desired position of each Figure in the text must be indicated by typing on a separate line the words "Figure 1 about here".
Tables follow the Figures and should be constructed to be intelligible without reference to the text. Include a title caption and headings for columns. Avoid very wide or very long tables that would not fit on one printed page. The same information should not be duplicated in other tables and figures. Place tables on separate pages at the end of the manuscript. Do not imbed tables within the text of the manuscript. The position of each Table in the text must be indicated by typing on a separate line the words "Table 1 about here".
Word length: Articles should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words, including all of the above sections. Book Reviews and Research Notes should be between 500 and 1,500 words.
